While staying in Amsterdam..

Your alternative day of fun will last until the late (read: early) hours, so it is best to start your day calmly with an impeccable and extensive breakfast. And what better place to do this than at the Meets eatery, where you can enjoy the best and exclusive dishes such as acai smoothy bowls, porridge or red lentil soup. All with 15% discount as an easyHotel guest.

After your breakfast, make your way by foot in direction of the Red Light District. On your way make a stop at the Spuistraat (in specific de Wijdesteeg), close to Damsquare, where you can enjoy streetart in the form of graffiti on many buildings and sights. When arriving at the Red Light District, walk around to ‘admire’ the Dutch culture and pass by Chinatown which is just around the corner.

Get ready to get a tour like no other, offered by Amsterdam Underground. Amsterdam Underground has a unique concept, giving everyone an insight into the homeless/street life tours giving by ex-homeless/addicts. They show you around the city explaining streetlife. Find out how Heroine got into the Netherlands, why the Zeedijk (red light district area) was a no-go, how to get food when living on the street, or where to find a place to sleep.
After your tour, get by at one of Asian restaurants in Chinatown to discuss what you just learned with your travel partner.

To get a little bit more excited about life, go to the Powerzone (behind Central Station to the right under the bridge) to play glow-in-the-dark midget golf, go lasergaming or bowling.

Now it is time to get a nice meal at the Waterhole. The Waterhole is a live music bar/restaurant, fully decorated like Texas in the 80’s. Have a good look around, you will see rockstars throughout the ages on the walls, guitars all around and make sure to peek at the loo, which is shaped like a mouth.

End your day at OT301 (a 5-minute walk from Leidseplein, direction south-west), the building of this alternative cultural center was squatted in the late 90’s to prevent it from being torn down and make space for a bicycle path. Now it functions as a place where independent sub-cultures get to do whatever they want. If you want to party till the sun rises, this is where you should be. Upstairs there is a cinema where they show movies from all around the world, sometimes in combination with a typical dinner from the country of origin.
